At 3,000-plus feet the heating load is heavy, so size up. Your supplier sizes the tank to the whole appliance list; if a furnace or water heater already burns propane, the fireplace usually shares that tank.

Lease or own for a home you're not always in

Leasing keeps upfront cost low with a small or waived annual fee tied to buying fuel there — often simplest for an absentee owner. Owning costs more but lets you shop per-gallon. Either way, ask about monitored fills so a rental tank never runs dry mid-booking.
