Those dated masonry and prefab fireplaces in Clyde's ranch and split-level homes often heat poorly and look tired — exactly what a sealed gas insert is built to fix. Slide one into the existing opening with a properly sized liner and you get an efficient, power-optional heater instead of a decorative hole in the wall.

If you just want holiday ambiance fast, a vented Real Fyre log set is the quicker route; the insert is the do-it-once upgrade worth starting sooner.

Valley humidity means checking the damper first

Clyde shares the Pigeon valley's cold-air drainage and river humidity with Canton and Waynesville, and that damp rusts dampers and degrades masonry chimneys. A vented log set runs with the damper open, so we confirm the damper and flue are sound before setting a date.

A rusted-shut damper or a failing liner is a fix to plan for, not a December surprise — and it may point you toward a sealed insert that brings its own fresh liner.

The gas line is licensed work in North Carolina — a mason or handyman can't legally connect the fuel, but we can, and we pull the Haywood County permit, pressure-test, and meet the inspector.
