My gas fireplace pilot is lit but the main burner won't come on — what's wrong?

The 1960s-to-80s ranch builds around Downtown Clyde and Lower Pigeon Valley were fitted with gas fireplaces that are now decades into service, and the thermopile is a wear part with a limited life. As it ages it makes less of the voltage that opens the main valve, until one cold evening it holds the pilot but can't fire the burner. That's the failure we see most in this housing stock, and it's a common, low-cost part — not a premium one. River humidity attacks the connections

In the Fines Creek and Crabtree homes, where units sit unused through damp summers, we often find both problems at once — a tired sensor and corroded terminals — so we test and re-terminate the whole circuit rather than swap one part and hope.
