What measurements does a fireplace dealer need before quoting an insert or log set?

The older downtown homes tend to have inefficient original masonry openings that lose heat up the chimney. Those we measure carefully to the tightest pinch and size the clay flue for a liner, since a sealed insert is usually the upgrade that turns a drafty box into a real heater.
