Where does a propane tank go on a steep mountain lot, and can the delivery truck reach it?
Much of Asheville sits on the natural-gas main, so the first question isn't where a propane tank goes — it's whether you need one at all. Where you're past the mains, up a Montford grade or out a quiet cove, the tank goes where it clears code setbacks from the house and lot line, and where the delivery truck's hose can reach — usually up by the drive.
On the main, or on a tank?
South Asheville's newer construction and most of the older core run on natural gas, and when a home's already on the main we simply extend a permitted gas line to the fireplace — no tank, no fills, nothing in the yard. Propane comes into play at the edges: cabins up the North Asheville ridges, homes sitting above where the main stops. That's where tank placement becomes the real conversation, and being headquartered on Emma Road means we can be on your lot for a look the same week.
Setbacks, then hose, then piping
Three things fix the spot, in order. Code clearances come first — a tank has to sit a required distance from the house, windows, doors, and property line, more distance for a bigger tank. Then the truck: the driver drags a hose from wherever a heavy bulk truck can park on firm ground, and that hose only runs so far, so a scenic spot the driver can't reach in a January freeze is no spot at all. Last is how far the gas travels back to your hearth, because that buried, outdoor-rated line is what we run and size.
