Which brands make three-sided, bay, or corner gas fireplaces?

Several brands we carry build multi-sided gas fireplaces — Napoleon, Heat & Glo, and Majestic all make three-sided (peninsula), bay, and corner configurations. They're direct-vent, so no chimney is required, but the extra glass and the venting run make correct sizing and placement more critical than on a standard front-facing box.

Picking the shape for the room

A three-sided peninsula fireplace divides two spaces — a kitchen and a great room, say — and shows flame from both sides. A bay unit projects out into the room with angled side glass for a wider view. A corner unit tucks into a 90-degree corner and opens on two adjacent walls. Each shape changes how heat and light spill into the space, and each carries its own clearances to combustibles that dictate exactly where the mantel, TV, and trim can land. We map all of that before a single stud goes up.

Venting is the real constraint

More glass means more of the firebox is exposed, and these units run a sealed coaxial vent — often straight up through the roof, because the extra glass leaves fewer solid walls for a sidewall termination. In a WNC home with a vaulted great room or a walk-out basement, the vent path is often what decides whether a corner or peninsula unit is even possible where you want it — and that's exactly the detail a furniture showroom selling a firebox can't work out for you. We pull the permit with your county, run and pressure-test the gas line, and set the vent to the manufacturer's spec.

Sized for the room, not the wall

Multi-sided units throw serious heat and glass in every direction, so sizing matters more than usual — an oversized peninsula can cook an open floor plan. As a rough guide, figure around 20 BTU per square foot in a moderate climate, and our mountain winters push that up. We'll size it to your actual space, not just the wall you're staring at.

Photos flatten a multi-sided fireplace — you can't tell how a peninsula reads from the kitchen side until you're standing next to one. Visit our Asheville showroom to look at the shapes in person, then we'll do a free in-home assessment to confirm what fits your wall, your fuel, and your venting. Call (828) 545-0525.
