Which brands make linear modern gas fireplaces?
For linear, modern "ribbon flame" gas fireplaces, our go-to lineup is Napoleon's Vector, Heat & Glo's Cosmo, Majestic's Meridian, and Regency's Horizon series. Want the wide contemporary look without running a gas line? Dimplex's IgniteXL Bold is the electric linear. All of them give you that long, low fire with glass media instead of traditional logs.
The linear models we install
Napoleon's Vector 50 is our everyday linear workhorse — a 50-inch ribbon flame with MIRRO-FLAME reflective panels that make the fire look twice as deep, at 40,000 BTU on natural gas. Heat & Glo's Cosmo 42 is the designer pick, with a cool-wall design that's built to let you mount a TV above it.
Majestic's Meridian 42 splits the difference — a clean linear box that still runs a real split-oak log set, with IntelliFire Touch app control. And Regency's Horizon series rounds out the group for a more understated modern line.
Gas or electric linear?
A gas linear gives you a real flame and real heat, but it's a direct-vent appliance — it needs proper venting and a licensed gas line, which is our lane. That's the tradeoff for warmth you can feel and heat that works when the power's out.
If the wall has no gas and you mainly want the look, Dimplex's IgniteXL Bold 50 is the electric answer: a strikingly realistic 50-inch flame that plugs into a standard circuit and adds about 5,000 BTU of supplemental warmth. Designing a linear fireplace wall
The fun part of linear is the media — crushed glass, stones, or driftwood in different colors that completely change the mood, plus front finishes to match your room. The part that needs a pro is the venting run and, for gas, the fuel line and clearances, especially if you're mounting a TV above.
