Who installs the propane tank versus the fireplace — is it the same company?
In Black Mountain it can go either way, depending on where you are. Down in town, many homes sit on the natural-gas main with no tank at all. Up in Montreat and the wooded lots, it's propane — your supplier owns the tank, and Steady Flame installs the fireplace and the licensed gas line that connects it.

Downtown Black Mountain and much of the Swannanoa Valley floor reach the natural-gas line, while the shaded, heavily wooded lots up in Montreat and Ridgecrest more often run propane. On the gas main there's simply no tank to think about — we extend a permitted, pressure-tested branch from the meter to your fireplace. On propane, the tank is your supplier's to own and fill, and the connection into the house is ours to run. Sorting out which fuel your address actually has is the first question we settle, because it changes who does what before we quote a thing.
Cold mornings make backup heat the real motive
Valley inversions here can leave mornings 10 to 15 degrees colder than Asheville, and frost lingers into late spring at 2,400 feet. A millivolt or battery-backup gas fireplace keeps throwing heat when the power drops — but only if the fuel line feeding it was run correctly in the first place. In North Carolina that line is licensed work, so a showroom or mason legally can't make the final connection, on the main or off a tank.
