Why does my gas fireplace's main burner light and then go out after a few seconds?
In Fletcher, a burner that lights then dies is usually a weak thermopile on one of the many 1990s builder-grade gas fireplaces here — the sensor can't hold the valve open once it's aged, and the flame drops within seconds. On newer I-26 corridor and commercial units, electronic ignition shifts the diagnosis elsewhere.
Builder-grade units are aging into this
A lot of Fletcher's 1990s subdivisions came with basic builder-grade gas fireplaces, and thirty years on, their thermopiles are right in the window where they tire out. A pilot that clogged over summer and now burns cool speeds it along — the sensor under-produces, the valve closes, and the burner quits seconds after catching. It's an inexpensive part and usually a single-visit fix.
Right on the Henderson–Buncombe line
Fletcher sits along the Henderson County line near the airport, and permitting follows the address — we pull the permit with the correct county and meet the inspector on any gas work, whether it's a home off Cane Creek or a commercial space along the I-26 corridor. The airport area drives more gas-fireplace and outdoor-feature work than the surrounding towns, and we handle the licensed gas side on all of it.
How we pin it down
We clean the pilot and meter the thermopile open and under load; on the newer electronic-ignition units we check the flame-sense rod and module instead. Either way you get an honest answer before any work — thermopile inexpensive, valve pricier. Fletcher's on natural gas, 20 minutes south. Call (828) 545-0525.
