When snow does the blocking

The other half is physical. A termination low on a wall where valley snow drifts, or one that ices over after a freeze-thaw, simply starves the burner of air. On the older standing-pilot units around downtown, a strong enough gust can also cool the pilot until it drops out. Late frost dates here mean you may be relying on the fireplace deeper into spring than folks a few hundred feet lower.
