Why won't my gas fireplace connect to its WiFi app or smart-home system?

Almost always a network mismatch, not a fireplace fault. Most fireplace apps only join a 2.4 GHz WiFi band, so a phone on a 5 GHz or combined network fails to pair. Other common causes: the WiFi module isn't powered or seated, the router's too far from the firebox, or the app needs a firmware update. The burner itself works independently.

Start with the 2.4 GHz band

This is the number-one culprit. Fireplace WiFi modules — on IntelliFire-equipped Heat & Glo and Heatilator units, Majestic's IntelliFire Touch, and similar app-controlled fireplaces — almost all connect only on the 2.4 GHz band, not 5 GHz.

Modern routers often broadcast both under one network name and hand your phone the 5 GHz signal, which the fireplace can't see. The fix is to join the 2.4 GHz network during setup, sometimes by temporarily separating the bands or naming them differently. Range matters too: a firebox buried in masonry with the router across the house may simply be out of reach.

The module and the basics

The WiFi accessory is a separate low-voltage board. If it lost power, wasn't fully seated at install, or the batteries in a battery-backup module died, the app has nothing to talk to.

We also see app accounts that need the latest firmware or a fresh pairing after a router change. Rebooting the router, re-adding the fireplace in the app, and confirming the module has power clears most of it. None of this touches the gas side, which is why your fireplace still lights from the switch or remote while the app sulks.

When to call us

If the band is right, the module has power, and it still won't join, the accessory board or receiver may have failed — that's a real part, not a settings glitch. We'll identify your exact unit, confirm the correct WiFi kit, and get it talking to your network.

One honest note for our WNC customers: smart control is a convenience, not a lifeline. After Helene, the fireplaces that kept homes warm did it on millivolt or battery-backup ignition with no internet at all. Keep the manual switch working, and treat the app as a bonus. Call (828) 545-0525.
