Candler is one of Asheville's fastest-growing suburbs, and it runs on a mix. The newer Enka-Candler subdivisions have natural-gas service, while the rural stretches toward Hominy Valley and Pisgah Highway stay on propane. That matters when a fireplace won't shut off, because a natural-gas valve and a propane one are different parts at different pressures. The first thing we confirm is which fuel feeds your firebox — on propane, you also have the tank's service valve as an extra shutoff.
Builder-grade fireboxes stick early
Much of Candler's fast new construction came with basic decorative builder-grade fireboxes, and owners here often want more real heat within a few years. Those entry-level units also have entry-level controls, so a stuck valve or a switch failed closed can show up sooner than you'd expect. The Hominy Valley bowl makes clean-burning sealed appliances especially attractive if you're already replacing parts.
Licensed, 15 minutes west
Repairing a gas or propane valve is licensed work in North Carolina — never a DIY reset, and no handyman can legally touch the fuel side.
