Can cracked fireplace glass be replaced, and does it need to be special glass?
Yes, cracked fireplace glass can be replaced — and yes, it absolutely must be the correct high-temperature panel, never ordinary glass. Gas fireplaces use ceramic or specially tempered glass cut to your exact model and rated for the heat and, on sealed units, the safety seal. We source the OEM panel for your fireplace, fit it with the right gasket, and confirm the seal before you use it.
Why ordinary glass is dangerous here
Window or plate glass shatters at fireplace temperatures — no exceptions. Hearth units use one of two things: ceramic glass, which handles extreme and uneven heat, or specially tempered safety glass. The two aren't interchangeable, and a direct-vent unit's panel is part of a sealed combustion barrier, so it has to be the exact type the manufacturer specs. Substitute the wrong glass and you risk a shatter and, on a sealed unit, exhaust leaking into the room. This is not a corner to cut.
