Can gas logs be installed in any existing fireplace?

In Arden, most of the open masonry fireplaces in Royal Pines and Skyland will physically take a vented gas log set — but they'll keep doing what they already do: pull heat out of the room. Vented logs need that damper clamped open, so they don't fix the draft. If warmth is the goal, we usually steer Arden homes toward a sealed insert.

Vented logs won't cure a drafty firebox

In Arden, most of the open masonry fireplaces across Royal Pines, Skyland, and Glenn Bridge will physically take a vented gas log set — but they'll keep doing what they already do, which is pull heat out of the room. These 1980s and 90s fireboxes are tired: warm air climbs the chimney and cold air slides down into the living room. A vented Real Fyre set drops right in and looks fantastic, but it needs the damper kept permanently open so its exhaust can escape, which means the draftiness stays put. Beautiful flame, same heat loss. That's an honest trade rather than a knock — plenty of Arden homeowners want exactly that ambiance and go in eyes open.

When a sealed insert is the better call — Buncombe permit

If your real complaint is a room that never warms up, a sealed gas insert is the Arden answer more often than not. It fits into the existing masonry opening, seals off the drafty flue, and actually holds heat where you want it, turning a decorative firebox into a genuine heater; vented logs stay the pick when pure ambiance and the closest look to a wood fire are the goal. You're on natural gas here, so the fuel side is simple — extending the line is licensed work we run and permit with Buncombe County, then meet the inspector. Arden is a quick 15 minutes south of our Asheville showroom. Call (828) 545-0525 and we'll weigh logs against an insert on your actual firebox.
