Can gas logs be installed in any existing fireplace?
In Candler, two things decide it. Many of the fast-growing subdivisions here came with a basic builder-grade firebox that's decorative-only and won't accept a burning log set. And this is propane country for a lot of homes, so a vented set is spec'd for LP. A genuine wood-burning fireplace still qualifies — we inspect to find out which you have.
Decorative builder-grade boxes don't qualify
Candler is growing fast, and a lot of that new housing came with a basic, builder-grade firebox meant to look like a fireplace more than function as one. Owners often want a real heat-producing upgrade within a few years — and discover their decorative box was never rated to hold vented gas logs. That's the crux here: vented logs need a true wood-burning fireplace with a solid firebox and a sound, damper-equipped flue. A shallow decorative recess isn't a candidate, no matter how it looks, which is why we inspect before promising anything.
Propane country, and a valley that traps air
Much of Candler runs on propane, with natural gas reaching only some of the newer subdivisions, so we confirm your fuel before ordering a Real Fyre set — the LP and natural-gas versions aren't interchangeable. Connecting propane is licensed gas work: regulator, piping, and appliance setup on us, the tank with your supplier. And because Hominy Valley sits in a natural bowl that traps air, a clean-burning, correctly set appliance matters more here than most places — a sooting, wrong-fuel burner is exactly what you don't want in this pocket.
Buncombe County permit, 15 minutes west
We inspect the firebox and flue, pull the Buncombe County permit, and meet the inspector. Candler is about 15 minutes west of our Asheville showroom.
