Can I add a remote control to a gas fireplace that only has a wall switch?
In historic Flat Rock, it depends on what's actually behind that switch. If your 1800s hearth was fitted with a gas log set, the wall toggle runs a millivolt valve we can usually add a remote to — with the caveat that a few of the oldest valves are too dated to pair. If the fireplace is still open masonry with no gas appliance, there's nothing yet for a remote to control.

A remote needs a gas valve to talk to, so the real upgrade there is adding a sealed gas insert or a log set first; the remote then comes as part of that job. A sealed insert also cures the draftiness while keeping the mantel and surround you'd never want to lose.
