Can my gas meter or propane regulator handle adding a fireplace?

In Leicester, most of the rural, large-lot homes we serve run propane, so your capacity limit is the regulator, not a utility meter. Adding a fireplace usually fits, but on some remote Sandy Mush and Turkey Creek properties with limited electrical service, we steer toward millivolt units that need no circuit board — and the propane system still has to carry them.

The regulator sets the ceiling

On propane, the two-stage regulator — stepping tank pressure down to what a fireplace burns — carries a rated capacity, and the tank has its own limit on a cold night. A gas fireplace is a light load, but if the furnace, water heater, and range already draw hard, we resize the regulator on the LP side and coordinate any larger tank with your propane supplier. We total the real numbers before assuming a rural tank has room to spare — better to find a tight regulator now than a dropping flame in January.

Limited power favors no-electricity heat

Some remote Leicester properties have modest electrical service, and cold-air drainage runs these valleys 5 to 8 degrees below Asheville on clear nights — so heat that doesn't depend on the grid earns its keep. Millivolt gas units light and modulate without a circuit board and keep throwing warmth in an outage, and wood heat is popular here for the same reason. Whichever you choose, the propane capacity to feed a gas unit gets confirmed first.

Permitted in Buncombe County

Propane pipe is licensed work — a landscaper or delivery crew legally can't connect it. We pull the Buncombe County permit, size and pressure-test the line, and set the appliance to burn clean on LP. Fifteen minutes west of our Asheville showroom, Leicester and its rural roads are close to home for us. Call (828) 545-0525 for a free assessment.
