Can you put stone veneer over a brick fireplace?
Yes — and in Mills River that goes for outdoor brick as much as indoor. Brick is non-combustible and load-bearing, so stone veneer bonds right over it whether it's a living-room firebox or a covered-patio fireplace. Out here on large rural lots amid farmland and forest, much of it feeds off propane, which is worth planning around before the stone goes on.
Propane is the fuel to plan for
Mills River is spread across large lots between farmland and forest, and a lot of these properties run on propane rather than a gas main. That's no obstacle to a reface — but if you're adding or keeping a gas insert behind the new stone, propane needs the right orifices and pressures or it soots and underperforms. Setting that correctly is licensed gas work, ours to permit and pressure-test, and we coordinate the tank side with your propane supplier. Kozy Heat's propane-country units are built for exactly this kind of home.
The outdoor fireplace counts too
The open Mills River valley is made for outdoor living, and stone-over-brick is one of the most satisfying upgrades to a patio fireplace or built-in surround. The same rule holds outside: brick is an ideal base, and any gas feeding an outdoor fireplace or fire pit has to be a buried, outdoor-rated line — licensed work, not a hardscaper's. Plan gas fire features for late spring, before entertaining season. We pull the Henderson County permit and meet the inspector, about 25 minutes from the showroom. Call (828) 545-0525.
Clearances still rule the layout
Indoors or out, the stone can cover the brick field freely, but around the firebox opening the unit's listed combustible-free zone governs where decorative material can begin. We handle that fire-and-heat side ourselves, so the finished look holds up to code and to weather — outdoor stone especially has to shed water rather than trap it against the masonry.
