Do all fireplace brands offer propane (LP) versions, or does switching from natural gas require a conversion kit?
Canton learned the hard way what a flooded gas appliance means. After the Pigeon River flooding, water-damaged hearths and gas connections here need a full inspection, not just a relight. On fuel, the valley is mixed, some natural gas and plenty of propane, and every brand we carry comes both ways. A unit is spec'd for your fuel or converted at install. Licensed work.
Rebuilds are the moment to get fuel right
A lot of Canton hearths and gas appliances came out of these mill-town homes after the flooding, and replacing one is the right time to confirm the fundamentals. Does your street run natural gas, or are you on a propane tank? Match the new fireplace exactly to that, because a wrong-fuel setup soots the logs and runs unsafe. Every gas brand we carry, Napoleon, Heat & Glo, Kozy Heat, Valor, and the rest, is available for both fuels, so the choice is about matching what's actually feeding your line.
Inspecting the gas connection
Floodwater doesn't just damage the firebox. It gets into lines, valves, and controls, which is why the gas connection itself has to be checked before anything is relit. That's a licensed gas contractor's job, and we pressure-test every connection, permit the work with Haywood County, and meet the inspector. Canton's valley-floor fog and dampness also rust dampers and caps earlier than you'd expect, so the whole system deserves a look.
