Do fireplace dealers charge for in-home estimates or quotes?

In Black Mountain, an in-home estimate is free — it's a quick 15-minute run east for us, so there's no trip charge to price a new fireplace, insert, or replacement. The only fee is the $125 diagnostic, and only when an existing unit has already failed and needs a technician to troubleshoot it rather than a quote.

Close enough that the visit is easy

Black Mountain sits just 15 minutes from our Emma Road showroom, so getting out to Montreat, Ridgecrest, or downtown for an assessment is no imposition — which is part of why we don't bill for it. The Swannanoa Valley plays its own game with temperature: inversions leave mornings here 10 to 15 degrees colder than Asheville, and frost dates run later into spring. We size the appliance to that reality, since a fireplace here is doing real work on cold valley mornings, not just setting a mood.

Wooded, damp Montreat lots

Montreat's heavily shaded lots keep houses cool and moisture-prone, and damp air is hard on masonry chimneys — something we look for on the free estimate before recommending an open-hearth restoration versus a sealed insert. Because Black Mountain is on the natural-gas mains, the visit also traces the line to the wall and confirms it can carry the unit. We pull the permit with Buncombe County and meet the inspector so the work is on record.

If a home in Ridgecrest or the Swannanoa Valley leans on the fireplace through those cold-pocket mornings, we'll size it to actually carry the load rather than just look good above the mantel. And because the valley holds frost later into spring, we'd rather service a gas unit in late summer than have you find a clogged burner on the first cold snap — no pressure, no upselling, just the right unit for the room.

Where the $125 diagnostic comes in

New installs, inserts, and replacements are free to price. A fireplace that worked and then quit — dead pilot, no spark, sooty glass — is the diagnostic, quoted upfront with no mystery charges, and usually fixed the same visit since the common parts are on the truck. Call (828) 545-0525 to book either, or stop by the showroom first.
