Clyde's older ranch-style homes from the 60s through the 80s tend to have dated fireplaces that would burn far better with a modern insert — more heat in the room, less up the flue. The free estimate is an insert-fit assessment: we measure the firebox, read the flue, and figure out whether a gas or wood insert with a proper liner is the right call. There's no charge because it's how the project starts, and no honest number exists without seeing the actual opening.

River humidity, and a Haywood permit

Clyde shares the cold-air drainage of Canton and Waynesville, and the river humidity here rusts dampers and degrades masonry chimneys — so the estimate checks the damper, cap, and liner condition before recommending anything. Because the town is mixed-fuel, we also confirm whether you're on gas or propane. We pull the permit with Haywood County and meet the inspector, because in North Carolina connecting a gas line is licensed work a handyman legally can't touch.

Because so many of these ranches share the same bones, we can usually tell quickly on the free visit whether a gas or wood insert is the better fit for your firebox and flue — but we still measure rather than assume, since a liner sized wrong is a liner done twice. If the honest call is that your old unit has a few good years left, we'll say so; we won't nickel-and-dime a fireplace that's still doing its job.
