Does converting to gas take longer if my house doesn't have natural gas service?
Not by much here. Most of Asheville sits on the natural-gas mains, so if fuel already reaches your house a conversion is often a single day. The delay only shows up when gas runs down your street but was never tapped to the home — a common gap in older Montford and North Asheville houses — which adds a utility meter set to the schedule.
The two Ashevilles we run into
Our crews work both ends of town from the shop right here on Emma Road. In Montford, North Asheville, and Biltmore Village, we're usually converting an original masonry firebox on a street that's had gas for decades — the line is often already stubbed to the house, and the whole job moves at conversion speed, not fuel-install speed. Newer South Asheville construction tends to be even simpler, since builders roughed in gas for a range or water heater and tapping the fireplace is short work. The homes that surprise owners are the ones where the main runs right past the curb but nobody ever paid for the tap.
What actually sets the clock
Being headquartered in Asheville doesn't let us jump the utility's line for a new meter — that piece is theirs, on their calendar. What we control we move fast: measuring the firebox, staging the interior gas line, sizing a stainless liner for a sealed insert, and being finished the day service goes live. When fuel is already at the house, none of that waiting applies and the conversion is typically wrapped in one visit.
The permit doesn't change
Whether your gas comes off the main downtown or a tank on the outskirts, we pull the Buncombe County permit and meet the inspector — because in North Carolina only a licensed gas contractor can legally run and pressure-test that line.
