How do I pick a fire pit location on a windy or sloped lot?

Set the pit on high, well-drained ground on a level pad, shelter it from the valley wind, and hold clearances to the house, trees, and property line.

The Tuckasegee valley funnels cold air and river moisture through Sylva, and that damp is why dampers rust and flue liners degrade faster here than up on drier ground. Either way a gas pit needs a buried, outdoor-rated line, and connecting it is licensed gas work only a licensed contractor can legally do. We run the line or set the propane piping, pull the permit with the county, and pressure-test before it burns.
