How often should vented gas logs be serviced?

In Arden, once a year — and many Royal Pines and Skyland homes run vented logs inside the open masonry fireplaces their 1980s-90s builders left behind. Those drafty old fireboxes vent through an open damper, so the annual service cleans the burner and pilot, tests the natural-gas connections, and gives that flue a real inspection.

Vented logs in tired open fireboxes

Arden's established Skyland and Royal Pines neighborhoods came with open masonry fireplaces that pull heat out of the room even as they look the part — and a vented log set dropped inside one keeps that drafty character. It's a fine choice for ambiance, which is all vented logs are for: a full realistic flame, damper open, most of the warmth up the chimney. Over an idle summer, though, spiders and dust foul the pilot and ports, so the yearly cleaning keeps ignition honest, and we reseat any log that's drifted, since a stray one sooties the flame.

The flue, and an honest upgrade note

Because these old open dampers stay open when the logs run, we inspect the flue every visit — liner, damper seat, cap, and draft — and clear any nest the chimney collected over summer. If you're tired of the draftiness and want actual heat instead of just a flame, a sealed insert is the real fix, and we'll say so plainly rather than upsell you a fancier log set. Either way, the annual safety check stands.

Fifteen minutes south

Arden is about 15 minutes south of our Asheville showroom, so scheduling is quick and we keep common gas-log parts on the truck for single-visit tune-ups. Book in late summer before the fall rush. Service starts from $189, and repairs are quoted upfront — no mystery charges. We also service outdoor gas features around Biltmore Park on the same runs, though those are their own appointment. Any gas-line work gets a Buncombe County permit and inspection. Call (828) 545-0525.
