How often should vented gas logs be serviced?
In Black Mountain, once a year before the cold sets in — and the Swannanoa Valley's temperature inversions make that timing count. Mornings here run 10 to 15 degrees colder than Asheville, so the hearth gets lit early; clean the burner and pilot, test the natural-gas connections, and inspect the open flue before those first frosty valley mornings arrive.
Cold valley air, early lighting
Black Mountain and the Swannanoa Valley sit in a pocket where cold air pools overnight and frost lingers later into spring than it does in Asheville. Practically, that means your vented log set works earlier and more often than the calendar suggests — so a late-summer service beats waiting until you actually need it. Over the off-season, cobwebs and grit clog the pilot and burner ports; clearing them is what keeps the flame lighting cleanly on a 20-degree morning. A log nudged out of place sooties the flame, so we reseat the set as part of the visit.
Wooded, damp, and moisture-prone
Up toward Montreat and Ridgecrest, heavily wooded lots keep houses shaded, cool, and damp — conditions that go to work on masonry chimneys and metal dampers. Because vented logs vent through an open damper, we give that flue a real look: liner condition, a damper that still seats, any nest or leaf litter dropped in from the canopy overhead. Natural gas burns clean, but a blocked or leaking flue still needs catching before the season.
Fifteen minutes east
Black Mountain is one of the closest towns to our Asheville showroom — about 15 minutes east — so scheduling is easy and we keep common parts on the truck. Book in late summer or early fall before the mountain rush. Most tune-ups wrap in a single visit, and if we spot a repair you'll hear the price before we start. We pull the Buncombe County permit if any gas-line work comes up. Call (828) 545-0525.
