How often should vented gas logs be serviced?
Weaverville splits into two kinds of homes, and the answer is once a year for both. New Reems Creek construction and the older downtown houses with original masonry fireboxes each run vented log sets differently, but the annual cleaning of burner, pilot, and connections — plus a look at the open flue — is the same standard either way.
Two housing worlds, one service
Reems Creek and the newer subdivisions came with modern fireboxes and factory chimneys, while downtown Weaverville's older homes still have the original, often inefficient masonry fireboxes. A vented log set can sit in either, but the flue behind it is a different animal — a tight modern liner versus century-old brick and clay. For old downtown chimneys we watch for cracked liners and stuck dampers; for new builds we confirm the factory venting is clear and drafting. We tailor the inspection to what you actually have rather than running the same checklist blind.
Why the yearly cleaning holds up
Whatever the house, a vented log set is decorative — a big realistic flame with the damper open and the heat mostly going up the chimney. That open, idle setup is a magnet over summer: spiders web the pilot hood, dust packs the burner ports, and a valve left unused can stiffen. Vented logs aren't a heater, and we won't pretend otherwise — but one appointment clears all that, checks gas pressure and connections, and reseats the Real Fyre logs so a strayed one doesn't sooty the flame.
North-valley timing
Weaverville's north-facing valley warms slowly in spring and cools early in fall, so don't push service too late. We're about 15 minutes north of the Asheville showroom, covering Reems Creek, Ox Creek, and downtown on regular runs, with common parts on the truck. If a repair or gas-line fix turns up, we handle the Buncombe County permit and inspection ourselves. Service starts from $189 — call (828) 545-0525.
Fireplace help in Weaverville
We install and service fireplaces throughout Weaverville and the rest of Buncombe County — just 15 minutes north from our Asheville-area showroom.
