Should I get a natural gas or propane fire pit?

In Candler, plan on propane. This is one of the propane pockets close to Asheville — the fast-growing subdivisions and Hominy Valley homes largely run on tanks rather than a gas main — so a pit here is an LP appliance, fed from a dedicated tank or your home's own. If your specific lot has service, we'll confirm it, but propane is the working assumption.

Propane Country Near Town

Candler is close to Asheville but not on its gas grid — like Fairview and out toward Brevard, it's propane territory. That shapes the pit: LP burns hotter per unit and at a different pressure than natural gas, so the burner takes propane-specific orifices and a proper regulator. Get it wrong and you get soot and a lazy yellow flame; set up right for LP, it burns clean and hot.

Most Candler homes already have a propane tank for heat, and that same tank can usually feed an outdoor pit, sparing you a second one in the yard. Where it can't reach or isn't sized for it, we add a dedicated tank matched to the burner and coordinate the tank itself with your supplier.

The subdivisions going up around Candler often ship with basic decorative fireboxes indoors that owners upgrade within a few years — the same appetite for real fire that makes an outdoor pit an easy addition to a new yard.

A Valley Bowl Rewards a Clean Flame

Hominy Valley sits in a natural bowl that can trap air, which is part of why clean-burning sealed appliances are popular here indoors. Outdoors the stakes are lower, but the principle holds — a properly set LP burner runs clean rather than smoky, so your evenings by the fire aren't spent in a haze. Correct orifice, correct pressure, clean flame.

Buncombe County Permit

The propane connection and regulator are licensed work — our lane, not a landscaper's or a delivery crew's. We pull the Buncombe County permit, pressure-test the line, and meet the inspector. We're 15 minutes west of the showroom. Call (828) 545-0525 for a free in-home assessment.
