Should I get a natural gas or propane fire pit?
It comes down to what's already at your property. If you're on a natural-gas main — much of Asheville, Hendersonville, Fletcher, and Arden — natural gas means you never refill a tank and pay less per BTU. Out in Fairview, Candler, Brevard, and the cabins, propane is the answer, either off your home's tank or a dedicated one.
Let the Property Decide
The fuel question usually answers itself once we know your address. Natural gas along the Asheville and Hendersonville mains lets us plumb the pit once and you never think about it again — flame whenever you want it, lowest cost per unit.
Propane country is Fairview, Candler, Brevard, and the cabins tucked up our mountain roads, where there's no main to tap. There the pit runs on a tank, and refills are just part of the deal. Both fuels burn beautifully; the practical difference is refills and cost per unit.
Propane Burns Hotter — and Needs the Right Setup
Propane burns hotter per unit and runs at different pressures than natural gas, so the burner has to have propane-specific orifices and a proper regulator. A pit built for natural gas is not the same appliance as one built for LP.
Get the orifice or pressure wrong and you get sooting, a lazy yellow flame, or wasted fuel. We set the pit up for your fuel from day one. Napoleon's Uptown square pit, for example, ships as an LP unit — the setup is fuel-specific by design.
Which We'd Recommend
If you have a main, natural gas nearly always wins on convenience — no tank to watch, no refill runs up the mountain in January, and the flame's always ready. That's the easy call in town.
