Where does a propane tank go on a steep mountain lot, and can the delivery truck reach it?
Mills River's rural, large-lot properties are mostly on propane, and the open valley here is actually kinder to tank delivery than the tight ridges elsewhere — there's room to meet code setbacks and firm, level ground for the truck. The tank goes where it clears the house, openings, and lot line and where the bulk truck can reach it with a hose.
Room to work
Out in the Mills River and Horse Shoe valley, lots are big and the ground is comparatively open and flat, which takes a lot of the usual mountain difficulty out of tank placement. There's space to hit the required clearances from the house and property line without crowding, and a bulk truck can generally find solid, level footing within hose reach. That same open ground is why so many folks here plan outdoor living — a gas fire pit or outdoor fireplace runs off the same propane system, so it's worth sizing the tank and line with those in mind if they're on the horizon.
Buried or above-ground, and the run
Many owners here bury the tank to keep the acreage clean; some go above-ground for simpler service. Either way the location has to clear setbacks, stay reachable for fills, and keep a sensible distance back to the fireplace along the outdoor-rated line we run and pressure-test. On these larger parcels the gas may travel a good way from tank to house — that distance is part of what we size.
Who handles the tank
The propane supplier sets, sets back, and fills the tank; we take it from the regulator — the line, the connections, the Henderson County permit, the inspection. One licensed gas contractor for the whole job, 25 minutes south of our Asheville showroom. Call (828) 545-0525.
