Can gas logs be installed in any existing fireplace?
Out in Mills River, the first thing we settle is fuel. These rural large-lot properties are largely on propane, not a gas main, so a vented log set has to be specified for LP from the start. Beyond that, the rule holds: vented logs need a genuine wood-burning fireplace with a sound chimney and working damper.
Propane changes the order sheet
Out in Mills River, the first thing we settle is fuel — and it's usually propane. These rural large-lot properties, the farmland acreage, and the newer builds mixed among them mostly run on LP, not a gas main. A Real Fyre vented set burns fine on propane, but it's not the same unit as the natural-gas version: different orifices, different pressure, and the wrong one soots and burns dirty. Connecting or extending that propane line, setting the regulator, and dialing in the appliance is licensed gas work — our lane, not a showroom's or a handyman's — while the tank itself we coordinate with your supplier. Get the fuel right at the order stage and the rest of the job goes smoothly.
The fireplace still has to qualify — then the Henderson permit
Propane sorted, the firebox decides the rest. Vented logs belong only in a genuine wood-burning fireplace — solid firebox, intact flue, a damper that works and stays open for the exhaust — not a decorative recess, an electric box, or an unrated prefab. On these rural Mills River properties we see the full range, so we inspect before quoting; if it passes, the vented set is the most realistic flame we sell. Mills River's open valley is also prime fire-pit and outdoor-fireplace country, best planned in late spring before entertaining season, but that's a separate job from indoor logs. We pull the permit with Henderson County and meet the inspector. Mills River is about 25 minutes south of our Asheville showroom. Call (828) 545-0525.
