Can gas logs be installed in any existing fireplace?

Which one you own decides the answer — so we look first.
Downtown masonry versus Reems Creek prefab
The fast new construction filling Reems Creek is a different animal from Weaverville's older downtown housing. Those original masonry fireboxes — inefficient as open fireplaces, but genuinely built for fire — are natural homes for a vented Real Fyre set. A prefab firebox in a newer subdivision home may look similar and be nothing alike underneath: unless it's specifically rated for a vented log set, it doesn't qualify, full stop. We read the label and the build, not just the look, before anything gets ordered.
Natural gas makes the fuel side simple
Weaverville sits on the natural-gas network, so most homes have fuel at the meter and the job is extending the line to the firebox — licensed gas-piping work we do and permit ourselves. A showroom can sell the logs; in North Carolina it can't legally connect them to gas. Bundling the appliance, the gas line, the permit, and the inspection under one accountable company is the whole point of calling us instead of stitching the job across three trades.
