Vented vs ventless gas logs — which should I buy?
In Brevard, the deciding factor is moisture. With 80-plus inches of rain a year already stressing crowns, dampers, and flue liners, adding a vent-free set that puts more humidity into the room deserves a hard look — fine in a roomy, breathable house, risky in a tight or already-damp one. If the point is the wood-fire look and your flue is sound, vented wins.
Rain country changes the ventless math
Transylvania County gets brutal rainfall, and it shows up in the hearth: rusted dampers, spalled brick, cracked crowns, and chimney chases that stay damp down in the crawl space. A vent-free set adds moisture to the room on purpose — that's how it keeps heat in — and in a house already fighting humidity, that can mean condensation you don't want.
