Vented vs ventless gas logs — which should I buy?
In Fairview you're in propane country, and a lot of homes still burn wood — so this question often rides alongside a conversion. On propane, either log style needs the right orifice and pressure. If you're leaving wood behind, vented logs give the familiar flame simply, ventless heats the room, and a sealed insert delivers efficient, power-optional warmth over a fresh liner.
Propane country, wood-heat habits
Fairview's large wooded lots out Cane Creek and Garren Creek run mostly on propane, and wood heat still has a strong following here. That shapes the log-set choice two ways. First, propane burns hotter than natural gas and needs its own orifice and manifold pressure — a set piped wrong runs sooty. Second, many of our Fairview calls are folks tired of hauling and stacking wood who want the flame without the work. Vented logs give the closest look to what they're used to; ventless trades some of that look for a room that genuinely warms.
If you're converting off wood
Those wooded lots come with a hidden cost — creosote is the leading cause of chimney fires without a fall sweep, and a wood chimney that hasn't been kept up is a real liability. Converting to gas can retire that risk. A vented gas set is the simplest, lower-cost path to a flame, but it still relies on that flue drafting, so we inspect it first. A sealed gas insert with a fresh liner is the upgrade we most often recommend: efficient heat, no creosote, and it keeps working on a millivolt valve when the power's out.

If ventless is the pick, the room has to clear its Btu limit and it stays out of bedrooms and baths, with a yearly cleaning to keep it honest.
