Dillsboro's older fireboxes
The historic homes around Dillsboro and downtown Sylva carry older masonry fireplaces that were built for wood — the natural home for a vented Real Fyre set. You keep the period brick and gain a hand-painted flame cast from real oak, no hauling or cold-start smoke. Near WCU, a lot of student and rental housing gets used hard and maintained unevenly, so before we set logs in any of these fireboxes we check that the firebox and flue are actually sound. It's a quick step that prevents a smoky first fire.
River-valley moisture is the enemy
The Tuckasegee valley drains cold air and holds river moisture, and that combination rusts dampers and degrades flue liners faster than in drier towns. A vented Real Fyre set depends on a working damper and a clean, open flue to draft, so a chimney inspection is part of the job here — not an add-on. On fuel, Sylva is mixed; we configure the set for natural gas or propane, whichever your home runs, so the flame burns clean either way.
Planned service for the distance
Sylva is a longer run from the shop, so we make the first visit count — set, venting, valve, and a pressure-tested line, closed out with the Jackson County permit and inspector. In North Carolina, only a licensed gas contractor can legally connect the fuel; a showroom or mason can't. Permitted work protects your insurance, too.
