Why won't my gas fireplace light after a power outage?
In Brevard you're largely in propane country — natural gas reaches parts of downtown, but out toward the cabins it's LP — and propane doesn't change the core answer: your ignition type decides whether an outage should have mattered. What Brevard adds is moisture, and that's often the hidden reason a propane fireplace won't relight.
Propane and the outage question
A propane fireplace with a standing pilot keeps a small flame lit continuously, so a power cut shouldn't faze it — if one won't light, look to the pilot, the thermocouple, or the regulator rather than the outage. An electronic-ignition propane unit is the one that leans on batteries; replace them at both the receiver and the remote and let the board reset before assuming the worst.
Brevard's damp works against you
Transylvania County catches more than eighty inches of rain a year, and that moisture creeps into the crawl spaces and chimney chases where a fireplace's gas and ignition components live. Damp corrodes contacts, rusts valve linkages, and degrades wiring over time — so a Brevard unit that shrugs off new batteries may simply have a component that finally gave out in the humidity. It's rarely the outage alone, especially in the wet March-to-June stretch.
Our work, permitted and quoted
Reconnecting or repairing a propane appliance is licensed gas work — a showroom or a mason can sell the box, but by law they can't touch the fuel side. We can, we pull the Transylvania County permit, and we pressure-test what we run. Brevard is about 40 minutes southwest of our Asheville showroom, well inside our routes. If you'd rather not gamble on the grid, a Valor runs with no electricity at all. Call (828) 545-0525.
