Waynesville, North Carolina

Do fireplace installers run the gas line, or do I need a separate plumber?

In Waynesville, we run the gas line and pull the Haywood County permit ourselves — no separate plumber in the mix. Steady Flame is a licensed gas contractor, so from sizing the line for a nearly-2,650-foot heating load to pressure-testing it and meeting the county inspector, the fuel side is our work start to finish.

Haywood County permitting, handled

Because Waynesville sits over the Haywood County line, 35 minutes west of our Asheville base, we pull that permit for you and meet the inspector there — you never coordinate it yourself. In North Carolina, running or extending a gas line is licensed work, full stop; a mason or a big-box showroom can hand you a firebox but legally can't connect it to fuel. We can, and permitting the line is baked into the job, not an afterthought you go chasing.

Sized for a long, cold season

At almost 2,650 feet, Waynesville runs 10 to 15 degrees colder than the lower valleys and heats about three weeks longer than Asheville, so the hearth here actually earns its keep. A lot of the older Hazelwood housing has drafty open fireplaces that lose more heat than they make; converting one to a sealed gas insert or a real wood unit like a Regency means we run a properly sized gas line to carry the load. Undersize the line and the appliance starves — which is why this belongs with a gas-licensed crew, not a handyman.

Natural gas or propane

Waynesville is mixed-fuel country: some blocks reach a natural-gas main, while plenty of Hazelwood and Lake Junaluska homes run on propane. Either way we size and connect the line and set the appliance for your fuel — for LP we handle the regulator and piping and coordinate the tank with your supplier. Not sure which you have?
