Vented vs ventless gas logs — which should I buy?

In Fletcher, the answer usually starts with a builder-grade box you want to do better. In the tight, well-sealed I-26 corridor construction, ventless moisture can fog windows, so we lean vented for looks or a sealed direct-vent for heat. In the older 1990s subdivisions with more air movement, a well-sized ventless set heats hard. Fletcher's on the gas main, so no tank either way.

Upgrading the builder-grade firebox

Fletcher is full of 1990s subdivision fireplaces installed to check a box — decorative, inefficient, underwhelming. The good news is you've almost always got a natural-gas main and a straightforward path to something better. If you love a fire for the look, a vented Real Fyre set gives you the tall, realistic flame that a builder-grade log never did. If you want the thing to actually heat the room, that's ventless or, better in most Fletcher homes, a sealed gas unit that puts efficient warmth where you feel it.

New construction changes the ventless call

The steady building along the I-26 corridor and around the airport means a lot of Fletcher homes are new and sealed tight, and that's the case where vent-free needs a second look. Ventless heats by keeping combustion moisture in the room, and a tight house shows it as condensation on cold glass. In those homes a sealed direct-vent unit is usually the better answer — it vents combustion straight outside, adds nothing to your indoor air, and heats reliably. In a leakier older build, ventless behaves fine.

Permits and the bedroom line

Whichever way it goes, the gas line is licensed work we permit with Henderson County and pressure-test, and ventless never goes in a bedroom or bath. Fletcher's a quick twenty minutes from our Asheville showroom — come see both styles burning, or call (828) 545-0525 for a free in-home assessment.
