Which fireplace brands are approved for mobile or manufactured homes?
For Arden, the mobile-home-listed brands we carry are Napoleon, Heat & Glo, Majestic, and Superior in sealed direct-vent gas. The Royal Pines and Skyland houses run to drafty open masonry, but a manufactured home is a different animal — it needs a unit specifically listed for that construction, with an outside-air kit and code anchoring, not a masonry insert.
Two very different fireplace problems
In Arden's 1980s-90s neighborhoods, the tired open masonry fireplaces pull heat out of the room, and a sealed insert turns them into real heaters. A manufactured home is a separate case: there's usually no masonry to insert into, and federal HUD-code rules require a fireplace factory-listed for that home type. So instead of an insert, we spec a direct-vent Napoleon, Heat & Glo, Majestic, or Superior unit that carries the manufactured-home listing.
Why sealed direct-vent
Direct-vent gas is the natural fit for a mobile home: no chimney, vents straight out a sidewall, combustion air drawn from outside, sealed from the living space. It puts out genuine heat and, with battery-backup ignition, still lights in an outage. Vent-free units are commonly restricted in manufactured homes and add indoor moisture, so we steer Arden owners toward the sealed direct-vent lines every time.
Fifteen minutes south, Buncombe permit
Arden sits on natural-gas mains, though some manufactured homes still use propane; we match the unit to the fuel and make the connection, which is licensed work a mason or handyman legally can't touch.
