Which fireplace brands are approved for mobile or manufactured homes?
For Leicester's rural manufactured homes — many on propane, some with limited electrical service — the mobile-home-listed brands we carry are Napoleon, Heat & Glo, Majestic, and Superior in LP direct-vent. The unit has to hold a manufactured-home listing, run an outside-air kit, and, ideally, use an ignition that doesn't lean on the grid.
Propane, wood, and thin power lines
Leicester is rural — Sandy Mush, Turkey Creek, big lots — and many manufactured homes here run on propane, with wood heat still popular and some remote properties working with limited electrical capacity. That last part matters: a direct-vent gas fireplace with millivolt or battery-backup ignition makes heat without drawing on a strained circuit and keeps running when a winter storm drops the line. We spec the LP-configured listed model to fit.
Cold hollows want real heat
On clear winter nights, cold air drains into Leicester's valleys and runs 5 to 8 degrees below Asheville — and a manufactured home, lighter than a site-built house, loses heat fast. A decorative unit won't cut it; a sealed direct-vent fireplace listed for a mobile home actually warms the room. Vent-free models are usually restricted in these homes, and a full wood-burning fireplace is rarely practical, so direct-vent gas is the sensible middle.
Buncombe County permit
Connecting propane is licensed work regardless of the home type — a handyman legally can't do it in North Carolina. We confirm the listing, fit the outside-air kit, secure the unit, run and pressure-test the line, pull the Buncombe County permit, and meet the inspector. We're 15 minutes west; call (828) 545-0525 for a free assessment.
