When the tank drains, the fireplace pulls air into the gas line behind the last propane; the next fill leaves that air sitting in the line, so the pilot clicks and clicks without catching until the line is purged and clean fuel reaches the burner — never what you want on a guest's first night. Reconnect the emptied tank and the regulator's excess-flow safety can read the inrush as a leak and clamp down, so a full tank still gives no flame.
