Do fireplace showrooms keep units in stock, or is everything special-ordered?
The units on our Asheville showroom floor are display models — running, so you can see the actual flame — not shelf stock to carry home. Your fireplace is ordered from the manufacturer for your specific job: the right size, the right fuel, the right front. A few high-volume models move faster, but most are built to your order.
Why we display instead of stockpile
A showroom's job is to let you see and feel the real thing — a Mendota's hand-cast logs throwing a convincing wood-fire look, a Valor putting out radiant heat with no blower and no circuit board, a Dimplex flame in summer mode with the heat off. Those are working demonstrators, not inventory to hand over the counter. A fireplace is a fitted appliance: it has to match your opening, your venting, and your fuel, so one-size-off-the-shelf doesn't serve you well.
What special-order means for your timeline
Because the unit is ordered to your specs, lead time depends on the brand and model. High-volume everyday lines are often quicker to get than premium linear units or custom fronts. If you want it running by the first cold snap, start the conversation early — the appliance has to be on site before install day, and fall is our busiest stretch across the mountains.
