My house doesn't have natural gas service — can I still get a permanently plumbed fire pit with a dedicated propane tank?
Yes. Sylva is mixed-fuel, and plenty of homes — from the rentals near WCU to the historic places down in Dillsboro — run on propane rather than a main. A permanently plumbed pit off a dedicated tank fits fine. We run and pressure-test the buried outdoor-rated line; your propane supplier owns and fills the tank.
We plan the trip around the distance
Sylva is about 50 minutes west of our Emma Rd shop, so we work efficiently: one visit to walk the property, size the run, and confirm tank placement, then an install day that trenches, connects, and pressure-tests the line in a single pass. On a longer-haul job like this we'd rather do it right the first time than make return trips, and we'll fold in a pre-season check so the pit is ready before you need it.
The Tuckasegee valley's cold-air drainage and river moisture are hard on metal, so outdoor-rated, corrosion-minded fittings go in from the start.
Propane behaves just like the main
Where there's no gas line — much of the surrounding valley and the older Dillsboro streets — a dedicated tank feeds the pit exactly as a utility connection would, same instant flame. If the house already runs propane, we can usually branch the pit off that existing tank instead of adding one.
The licensed connection
Your propane company owns and services the tank. Everything downstream — regulator, buried line, burner setup — is licensed gas work; in North Carolina a landscaper can't legally make that connection. We pull the permit with Jackson County, meet the inspector, and test the run. Call (828) 545-0525.
