Access and venting come first
Homes built into the mountainside — and the tall, narrow multi-story buildings downtown — don't give you many easy venting paths, and tight lots complicate chimney routing and draft. The assessment is where we work that out: whether a direct-vent unit can go out a sidewall, whether a chimney can be relined, and how we get equipment to a hard-access site. Guessing here gets expensive.

Gorge air, mixed fuel
The French Broad gorge brings cool, damp evenings and can push downdrafts on an open fireplace, so we pay attention to draft and cap choice. Marshall runs mixed fuel — natural gas in parts of town, propane on the outskirts and up toward Hot Springs — which decides the appliance and orifices. A sealed direct-vent unit is often the cleanest answer to a difficult draft.

Install day on a tight site
On install day we protect floors and stairs, run and pressure-test the line, set and vent the appliance, and clean up. Most gas installs finish in a day; wood and chimney jobs run two to three, more if access is tight. The Madison inspector signs off, then we light it with you.
