We disconnect and cap the gas, lift the old one out, and haul it off.
Preserve the masonry, replace the guts

In most cases we're removing what's inside — an old insert, a worn log set, a heat-losing open setup — and dropping a sealed unit into that existing masonry, which fixes the cold-air draft these old hearths pull without touching the brick. Where the masonry structure itself genuinely has to come out, that's a mason's teardown, and we'll be straight with you about it before install day.
Capping the line and pulling the permit
Flat Rock sits on the natural-gas mains, so removal starts with shutting off and capping the gas line — licensed work in North Carolina, and the reason we don't split the job across a showroom and a handyman. Once the old unit is free it goes on our truck with the debris; we're about thirty minutes south of our Emma Rd showroom. For the new install we pull the Henderson County permit and meet the inspector so the work is documented and your homeowner's coverage stays intact.
