Can I put gas logs in a Superior or Majestic wood-burning fireplace?
In Fairview, yes — a genuine wood-burning Superior or Majestic will take a gas log set — but out here on these wooded rural lots, most homes are on propane, not a gas main, and wood heat runs deep. So the real question is usually whether you want to keep burning wood or trade the chore for a flame at the flip of a valve.
Trading the woodpile for a flame
Plenty of Fairview homeowners have burned wood for years — Cane Creek Valley, Garren Creek, up the Charlotte Highway corridor — and are ready to stop hauling logs and cleaning up ash. A vented gas log set is the simplest way to do that: it sits in your existing wood firebox, gives you the tall realistic flame with the damper open, and lights without the cold-start smoke. It's ambiance more than heat, but for a lot of people that trade — convenience for the chore — is exactly the point. If you'd rather keep real, efficient heat, a sealed insert in that same box does it, and we'll price both.
Propane setup and the creosote question
On these lots, a log set almost always means propane — correct orifices, correct pressure, connection coordinated with your tank supplier, or it soots. There's a safety upside to going gas, too: Fairview's wood-heavy chimneys build creosote, the leading cause of chimney fires when fall sweeps get skipped, and a gas log set produces none of it. That said, if serious heat is your goal, wood inserts and stoves still earn their keep here, and we install those as readily as we set logs.

Then the propane line is licensed work: a showroom or a mason legally can't connect fuel in North Carolina, so we run it, pressure-test it, pull the Buncombe County permit, and meet the inspector.
