Can I put gas logs in a Superior or Majestic wood-burning fireplace?
In Mars Hill, yes — a true wood-burning Superior or Majestic will take a gas log set — but the fuel depends on where you are. Homes near the university may reach natural gas, while the rural Spring Creek and Gabriels Creek valleys run on propane or wood. We confirm your fuel first, because an LP set needs different orifices and pressure than a natural-gas one.

Mars Hill splits between the university area and the rural valleys, and the fireplace conversation follows suit. Near campus and the rentals that fill the academic year, tenants and landlords tend to want easy, switch-on gas — and where there's a natural-gas connection, a vented log set ties in cleanly. Out in Spring Creek, Gabriels Creek, and toward Forks of Ivy, propane and wood rule, so a log set there is an LP job: correct orifices, correct pressure, and a connection coordinated with the tank. For a rental, the details that protect you
If a set is going into a rental, two things matter beyond the flame. First, the firebox has to qualify — a factory-built wood box only takes gas logs when its rating plate allows, and we read that plate. Second, vent-free logs, which some landlords consider for extra heat, come with real rules: room-size BTU limits, an oxygen-depletion shutoff, added indoor moisture, and no bedrooms or bathrooms. For a tenant-occupied space, a vented set or a sealed direct-vent unit is usually the cleaner call.

Whichever fuel and firebox you've got, the connection is licensed work — a showroom or a mason legally can't run it in North Carolina.
