A vented log set runs with the damper wide open by design, so the tall flame looks wonderful while most of its heat goes straight up the chimney. On a January night at this elevation that flame is company, not a furnace. We say that plainly because we'd rather you be happy in February than sold in October.
The heat-producing alternative
